A walking tour discovering the vibrant Berlin-Mitte neighbourhood, with a lot of cafes, shops and art galleries. Characteristic for the city of Berlin is the system of multiple courtyards, a dense urban structure were people live an work even deep inside the city blocks. In Berlin-Mitte where an emerging alternative scene transformed a whole neighbourhood, the labyrinth of courtyards plays a keyrole for the new urban life.

The most prominent example are the Hackische Höfe, the hugest system consisting of ten courtyards. Other Berlin courtyards in this area now house various functions like a library, offices, workshops and apartments and they all have their particular style. Also in the streets urban voids and gaps have been filled in with new architecture. Together all these small changes and interventions create a unique and charming atmosphere.
